El Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday observed primarily on November 1st and 2nd every year in celebration of the lives of the deceased. As a part of Spanish classes at Southwood, each class is given themed projects centered around El Día de los Muertos in addition to regular class assignments leading up to the Friday of the week of the holiday, which is typically the day of class fiestas.

The Southwood Trunk-or-Treat has developed into a highly anticipated annual event after being established in 2022. Hundreds of children and their families attend the event, where they are treated to candy, games, and a fun atmosphere which unites the community.
Homecoming is an important high school tradition that builds a strong community between staff, students, and parents through an exciting week of fun activities.
Southwood Jr/Sr High School has announced their 2023 Valedictorian, Miss Elise Adams, and Salutatorian, Miss Katelyn Ranck.
Students at Southwood will now have a formalized process for completing and certifying their first year of college before graduating from high school.
2014 Southwood graduate Dr. Zach Hobson will present to students and guests at this year's Academic Recognition Banquet.
